Who Is a Good Candidate for
a
thread lift?
A thread lift is ideal for adults who are starting to notice sagging or looseness in areas like the cheeks, jawline, eyebrows, or neck, typically those in their late 30s to late 50s with mild to moderate skin laxity. It’s a great option if you:
- Want a noticeable lift but aren’t ready (or willing) to undergo a surgical facelift.
- Are generally in good health and have fairly firm skin (very loose skin might require surgery for significant results).
- Have realistic expectations, thread lift will refresh your appearance and rewind the clock a few years, but it won’t duplicate the dramatic effect of a major surgery.
- Prefer a quick recovery and a lower-cost procedure compared to traditional facelift surgery.
During your consultation, our dermatology team will examine your skin and discuss your goals. We’ll be honest about what a thread lift can achieve for you. If you have very advanced sagging or heavily sun-damaged skin, we might recommend other treatments (or a combination approach). Often, patients who can no longer get enough lift from fillers but don’t want surgery find thread lifts to be the perfect middle-ground solution.

The Thread Lift Procedure – What to Expect What to Expect
Preparation: On the day of your thread lift, you’ll arrive at our Forest Hills office and get comfortable in a treatment room. We cleanse and mark the areas to be treated. You’ll receive a local anesthetic (numbing injection) in those areas, so you stay awake, but the target areas are fully numb and you won’t feel pain.
Placement of Threads: Once you’re numb, our provider uses a fine needle or cannula to insert the PDO threads under your skin gently. Each thread is placed strategically to lift the skin and tissue. For example, to elevate the cheeks and jowls, threads might be inserted near the ear and angled toward the corners of the mouth. We treat one section at a time, inserting threads in a mesh or lattice pattern for even lifting. You might feel some light pressure or tugging, but no sharp pain. As the thread is inserted, tiny barbs on the thread anchor into the droopy tissue. Then the provider carefully pulls the thread to lift the skin to a higher, firmer position. Once the thread is in the right place, it’s trimmed and stays hidden under the skin. We typically use several threads per area (for example, 2-3 threads per cheek) to achieve a uniform lift.
Duration: The entire procedure usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how many areas we’re treating. Because it’s relatively quick and done with local anesthesia, many patients liken it to an extended filler appointment – you’re in and out in under an hour or two.
After the procedure, we’ll give you an ice pack to minimize any swelling, and after a brief observation, you’ll be free to go home the same day. There’s no need for bandages, and any tiny insertion points are covered with small steri-strips or heal on their own quickly.
