Skin Tightening Q & A
What is skin tightening?
Skin tightening is a noninvasive cosmetic procedure using radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat your skin. The heating process causes your fat cells to shrink and your skin to contract. When combined, the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin are minimized.
At Adult and Pediatric Dermatology, the team conducts skin tightening with the Exilis Ultra system. Exilis Ultra is a product of BTL Aesthetics, a part of BTL Industries Inc. Treatment with Exilis Ultra is quick, convenient, and pain-free. What’s more, there’s no need for downtime or recovery, so you can return to your routine right away.

What does skin tightening involve?
At Adult and Pediatric Dermatology, the team does skin tightening on an outpatient basis. If your provider determines that you can benefit, they apply a topical anesthetic to the area of skin to be treated.
Next, your provider runs a hand-held device across one (or several) areas of loose, sagging, or wrinkly skin. The device sends out radiofrequency energy that heats the tissue beneath. The heating process destroys fat cells and encourages the production of collagen and elastin –– proteins that keep your skin firm and supple.
The entire procedure takes 30-45 minutes. During treatment, you lie down and relax. Many people compare the sensation of skin tightening to a hot stone massage.
How many skin tightening treatments will I need?
How many skin tightening treatments you need depends on several things, including your age, goals, and the area of skin to be treated. Typically, the Adult and Pediatric Dermatology team recommends a series of 2-4 treatments spaced 7-10 days apart.
